My name is Brandy Harris and I live in N. OKC with my spouse Terry and our 5 children, Dryden, Tanner, Dash, Everly & Ellarie. I have been a life-long lover of pregnancy, birth and babies. In my early 20s through my own efforts of starting a family, I began a more deliberate search for diverse choices in the birthing community.
The act of supporting families through the most intimate experiences of their lives came easy for me. It has brought me great joy and 15 years later, continues to be a very rewarding and fulfilling calling on my life.
In 2001, I trained to become a Certified Birth Doula through DONA International,I was officially certified in 2009. I became a Certified Breastfeeding Educator in 2010 and since have attended many hours of continuing education in birthing and lactation supporting well over 1000 families in Oklahoma.
In 2009, through in vitro fertilization, I became pregnant and birthed my twin boys. With the help of our own Birth Doula, Midwife and HypnoBirthing® techniques, I had both a challenging yet rewarding unmedicated, vaginal hospital birth.
In 2011, I became a certified HypnoBirthing® Educator. My goal was to add to the choices in childbirth education to the community and to help families experience gentle, fear free, family-centered birthing in any environment. I successfully taught HypnoBirthing® for seven years in the OKC/Metro area, helping hundreds of families achieve their birthing goals.
In 2015, I began my work as a Midwife’s Assistant. Working with several local Midwives in both home and birth center settings. It has allowed me to serve families who choose a community birth and it brought me closer to my own goal of becoming a Midwife. Out of hospital birthing is becoming more common among all kinds of families and it is satisfying to see an idea, even a dream become a reality for a family who seeks something different for their birth.
In 2016, after a successful frozen embryo transfer, I experienced a very rewarding and healing home-birth of my son and daughter with the help of Midwives, Birth Assistants, Doulas and close friends. Yes! A second set of twins!
In the GREATEST plot twist of 2018, I unexpectedly became pregnant with our youngest, Ellarie Starr. After over a decade of infertility, we were shocked to say the least. In July, 2019, she too, was home born into my hands in the most beautiful and perfect way. Her birth officially closes a chapter in our lives and we could not be more grateful to God for such a blessing and to our Midwife for her exceptional care.
I feel that ALL my birth experiences has given me a gift in being able to support families through both the beautiful and the challenging moments that occur during their births.
I expect to graduate from Midwives College of Utah in Fall 2019 where I will be expanding my practice and offering comprehensive Midwifery services for those with due dates starting in Spring 2020.
